{{Question |QuestionFaqPage=FAQ/Main FAQ |Topics=Technology |Link=https://alogos.dreamwidth.org/1341.html?thread=18749#cmt18749 |AskedBy=hexcurse |DateAsked=2025-02-26 |QuestionText=Hiya! Been reading the info pages and this sounds really neat 👀

How quickly after arriving would PCs be able to start digging into and familiarizing with the background flavor magitech in this world? Also, do y'all have a specific line in mind as far as what types of stuff PCs could eventually fix/build on their own without needing OOC permissions versus 'hey, ask us first!'?

Hope that makes sense, thank you! |DateAnswered=2025-02-26 |AnswerText=Hello! Arriving PCs may begin digging into the flavor of magitechs and techs alike immediately. We would prefer to give more agency to players, whatever is most fun (and devious), so our 'line' is generous. Likewise, we also welcome many inquiries about tech and what powers it, so if you wish for your character to get nosy and try to unearth something crucial, we invite it.

Regarding what types of things that can be built: we have no limits reaching up toward a robot or computer if it's being built with the same version of magic Karterians use. Weapons, robots, clippers, coffee machines, go for it. Dismantling many sophisticated pieces of tech, including common ServiTons, will yield a sort of chip like a CPU, but it's infused with magic that gives the tech 'instructions'—a kind of controlling magic, which seems to be at the root of Karteria's native magic.

The point where we'd want mod involvement would be if characters were trying experimental/unstable builds (such as trying to incorporate Katalyth into tech.......), attempting to build something that took an immense amount of resources (resources aren't as abundant as they used to be, and native citizens will become alarmed if it's soaking up too much electricity/metal/mystery component), or if they decide to tamper with existing tech in the setting that seems particularly important—which would usually be something that is being actively mentioned in an event, or the like. Similarly, if a character wishes to learn about the tech they're handling, we can certainly give any inquiries something to work with. Also: if it causes property damage or harms the setting, we'll definitely have self-reporting threads in future logs so that NPCs can judge y'all. }}
