|QuestionText=Hello mods! I was looking on the locations page about the library and wanted to ballpark two things.

1) What are the most recent library records like? Specifically, would there be anything about Lupê and the weapon-crisis? Would the info - if any - be propagandized or just thrown away because of what they did? Mostly just trying to gauge how much someone might be able to find out from NOT grilling NPCs around basic political things around that time.

2) In conjunction with that question, if nothing's been written super recently (the last 25 years), is there any info from prior to the weapon-crisis about relations across the islands that one might find? Again, nothing involving NPC grilling, but basic history one might find in a book.

Thank you!
|AnswerText=1. There are definitely records on Lupê and the war! It's largely in the form of preserved newspapers, magazines, and the occasional rhetorical essay. There's mentions of illness in Lupê with an unknown cause and no cure. The tone (concern towards them, concern for what this means for Karteria, concerns over the economy) shifts abruptly at a certain point.

One such headline from the time period reads:

"LUPÊ: ISLAND OF MISERY SEEKS TO DRAG WORLD INTO ITS WARTIME TEMPEST." Patho-Gen, the philanthropic force behind curing Lupê's mysterious disease, has discovered the source cause. Lupêlian government has been manufacturing contraband in secret, tapping into horrendous powers to produce war machines like none other. Illness is rampant! What are they thinking?! Karteria continues to chart the seas to send aid to Lupêlian citizens despite Lupê's declaration of war.

It's dated to the year 856 (the current year is 931). The headlines remain suitably dramatic, before announcing an end to the war in late 906, with the Augmented assault on Lupê, the tragic death of Peacock and her fellows, and the fall of the city and complete irradiation of the island.

2. There are also quite a few things available on the other islands pre-arcane radiation. Most of it is fairly light reading- brief intros on their respective cultures and landscapes, with the bulk of attention given towards Karteria itself. (It is very self-indulgent, shamelessly biased. There's plenty of comparisons made between Karteria and the other citystates, and it all paints Karteria in the best light.)

There is... very little on Enochlesis, painting a broad picture of its people as rugged survivalists, or paranoid heathens, or backwards simpletons. 'Pragmatic and stoic' is the closest thing to a consistent thread between portrayals. The most honest literature admits that they just don't know the Enochlesians that well, with contact between the cities sporadic at best.

There's far more on Kelesis- travel guides on the city, on the (unspeakable, yet alluring) depravity on display there. There's also plenty of material comparing their moral fiber to that of Karteria- it seems to be a favorite topic, really. Authors just love going into all ways the Kelesians are morally bankrupt (along with the best places to go if you want to see it). Despite the judgement, it's clear that there hasn't been any conflict between the cities in any sort of war-like sense.

There is very little on Lupê from before the war, making it difficult to judge how they were perceived beyond some amiable neutrality. For things dated after the war, well...

There's multiple books, papers, essays of rather more... speculative analysis, pathologizing the people there, and are less about trying to make sense of the senseless, and more about dramatizing the whole thing. They're not well-regarded now, but they were popular reads at the time.
