hi again, modlings! i am currently in the kitchen. there are ingredients on the counter. i look into the recipe book. i find y'alls faq page. i have a question that demands a bit of hi3 lore explanation so forgive me for the yap...

this is a bit of a piggyback off this question: the whole reason elysia is so unaffected by the transformations and getting souls forced into them is because this is not her first rodeo. in hi3, she and her merry band of friends (known as MANTIS, who are pretty much hi3's version of the augmented ngl the similarities are a bit uncanny) went through experiments to have honkai beast genes injected into them, and that, too, caused physical side effects. some were more "subtle" (elysia's elf ears for example, surprise, she was not born with them, which's why she's rocking those wings like she has had them for life), and some were more... well, let's just say poor kosma would really belong in karteria, with the horns and pointy ears and claws and wings (i'm pretty sure the wings are fake, let the boy be edgy)

my question begins based off the, again, really uncanny similarities, because much like the augmented with corrupting and shifting, the MANTIS could also harness the power of their honkai beasts to transform into a more beastly form based off the genes they were injected with at the cost of losing control over themselves... so you see how funny this is to me. unlike the case with amaya, elysia doesn't so much have a soul in her as her DNA is now mixed with the honkai beast maheśvara, and i was wondering if there's a chance i could play around with this somehow... due to elysia's nature as a herrscher she was mostly immune to the worse side-effects of the MANTIS surgery and likely wouldn't be able to transform like that, but i think it would be fun if the genes did affect her natural soul instead. is that something that would even be possible, to begin with? what ARE the souls latching onto - their biology, their figurative souls, their DNA?? honestly this whole yapfest is just to ask if i can go even wilder with elysia's shifting, and if whatever influence elysia's natural soul has on her might also be affected by the maheśvara in her. there are two monsters inside of you, etc

That's wild, canons do love their scientific monstrosities.... For the Augmented, the Natural Souls are latching onto... well, everything, really. From corrupting preexisting souls (or soul-like entities), to re-writing their biology to support and produce fur or scales or whole other limbs, the Natural Souls are working their way into all of it.

Which in practice could mean they're also latching onto Elysia's foreign DNA, and causing it to be expressed, yes. So it could end up manifesting through the same roots that her Natural Soul is, her Corruption/Shifting taking on the aspects of what she already had lurking. Just a nice little cooperation of foreign entities, incorporating each other for a greater future.

So basically: yes, go wild with the shifting, more monsters always, etc.
