Apologies for such a random, insignificant question LOL

Are tattoos or piercings a thing in Karteria or Kelesis? Is there an industry for it in either city? How would residents of either city feel about body modifications of that nature?

Thanks!

In Karteria, feelings are mixed, when it comes to tattoos/piercings. Some view it as an important part of self-expression- others find it vulgar. There's plenty who don't care one way or another. It's not even particularly class-based, as there's plenty of upper class who favor the idea of putting art on themselves (they're less forgiving with piercings, beyond those in the ears- and the occasional lip, for the 'rebellious'). It is quite an expensive hobby, after all, when it's done properly- so it becomes its own marker of status.

Generally, you're more likely to be judged for the quality of your tattoo, rather than its existence. Tattoo/piercing shops exist within all strata of the city.

Kelesians are even more laid back about it. They're less likely to judge even poor-quality art, or tasteless subject matter, and are more likely to ask questions about it, like if it has any particular meaning (Karterians will probably not ask, viewing it as a more personal matter). As Kelesian society is rather egalitarian, body modifications also convey nothing about one's 'status'. Anyone can have them. Multiple shops to get work done also exist within Kelesis.
