so, questions about terra types:

  • pruning — pruning is often done to encourage new growth, is this true of terra types as well? is it possible to encourage... branching? aka can heavy pruning of a terra type (cutting off limbs) result in growing multiple limbs to replace it?
  • grafting — take a piece of scion wood and match it to the cambium of a compatible plant and boom, you can grow that plant on rootstock that is resistant to pests and disease, can this be done with terra limbs (both giving and receiving, shifted and unshifted) what about between two augmented with terra souls?
  • cloning — many plants can grow a new plant from cuttings, as terra augmented can produce fruit, I'm guessing they can clone at least the plant part of themselves, but presumably not the "person" part?
  • growth speed — terra can encourage plant growth, how much can they do? can tighnari work his way up to giving the farm project a big boost? I'm thinking that already being familiar with using dendro (plant) energy, he'll probably get a head start on being able to use this aspect of his terra powers
  • are there limitations I should keep in mind regarding the number of different plants I can draw from or anything? Don't want to make my plant boy too OP or anything!

"icie, we do not care about plants as much as you, do whatever" is a very valid answer to these, btw

Tighnari really jumping root-first into becoming A Plant...

1. Pruning can work with Terra-types as it does with plants themselves. A new Terra-type that's hardly undergone much corruption might not do so well if they cut off one of their own arms, however, and would likely bleed out before anything happened. A more corrupted Terra would have a better time surviving long enough to regrow (multiple) limbs. When Shifted, this is both easier and faster to achieve- though the effects will naturally disappear whenever they de-Shift.

2. Grafting is totally possible with Terras, in both Shifted and corrupted forms (though it'll have an easier time sticking around if performed on the corrupted version). Any powers they might gain from the grafted Terra should still be weaker than its origin plant. (Mostly to keep a particularly stubborn Terra from becoming masters in every possible field). But it's possible!

3. Terras can grow copies of their particular plants elsewhere, yes! The plant part, not the person part... can't grow a field of Tighnaris. But the plants he's now made of, yes.

4. Growth speed help: it can be quite a bit, especially once their corruption is properly settled in (and further boosted if done while Shifted). With his preexisting familiarity with plants, Tighnari would have an easier time than other Terras might, in 'reading' what other plants need, and understanding how best to aid their growth. He shouldn't be able to take a whole field of seeds and bring them to fruition on his own in a day, but he could certainly cut down on the time it takes, especially when working together with other Terras.

5. While there's not a hard limit on plant types, three is a sort of soft limit. Especially if one picks a family like Rosaceae or Brassicaceae, which in themselves contain... a lot. Whether one picks a wider category, or an individual species, is something we're leaving in player hands, so it boils down to just- try not to grow everything! But you can still have a variety.
