Completely understandable! They wouldn't want to pass on a trade when they're struggling to make ends meet. And she would get that entirely. It would definitely be more about...how do we make some minor alterations or repairs so creepy and weird people are not at your shop constantly (unless they are cool with it and want the money, of course)!

So, I'd like for Mel to work on this. Find a business (or two) in the lower/lower-middle class areas to give her patronage to. Buy fabric first, some thread and needles (for Pom), and then continue to frequent the shop for materials. At some point in the next few weeks she'd then ask if she could be measured for some basic things (just a shirt or two, or to bring some clothes to be altered to work with the new arm-feathers) and go from there. Just in general, to establish good rapport, to work with them to potentially extend to other trusted Augmented, and to provide steady money for it.

(Maybe sweeten the pot with a little bit of that bird privilege. She could model anything you'd like! Get you more customers when they see how good your work is...)

She could totally do something like that! The Augmented are a potentially lucrative market for those open-minded enough to be willing to work with more monstrous proportions- they just need a bit of encouraging to see it that way.

So yes, a plan like that should win over at least a few of the locals. An Augmented modeling their clothes though... somewhere in Sophia might be open to that, given that their clientele is more intrigued by the unusual, especially when it's an Aves. Most of the other modest shops- well, they'll work with Augmented, or even teach them how to modify or look after their clothes, but they don't necessarily want their shops associated with them. They worry that they'll lose their old, reliable customers- and conditions are fragile enough, that they're reluctant to do anything risky.
