Hello mods! I have a question about what animals/plants are available as natural soul inspirations. Can they be from a character's canon or do they have to be real world examples of flora/fauna? Hello there! This is an excellent idea. Soul types can be inspired by flora/fauna from a character's canon. The limitations here would be as such:

  1. Make sure that whatever the flora/fauna is, it's categorized correctly (that is, horse-inspired creatures do not work for Ruminantia-types; fictional fungi do not work for Terra-types), as we have plans involving unused categories.
  2. Please only draw from your character's canon, not another unrelated canon. In another question we laid out a rule about Pokemon not being generally available as an inspiration, but if you were apping a Pokemon protagonist and wished to loosely inspire a Carnivora-type based on Purugly, that would be fine. Chocobos can inspire Final Fantasy characters' Aves-type. Lunar Tears can be incorporated into a NieR character's Terra-type. You get the picture!
  3. Use common sense: if the source of inspiration would grant some kind of catastrophic powers that could break the setting, that wouldn't be great. If there is a rock out there in some fictional series that can end the world if you poke it, maybe just take some inspiration from it for your Golem-type, not all of it.

Hope that helps!
