Hi mods! Rinne wants to set up a studio somewhere in Karteria so he can jam with his friends. Ideally, I want him to convert an abandoned warehouse or rent a space at someone's failing theater or speakeasy... then buy some musical instruments and audio equipment while he's at it. Is all of this even possible? Will the 5000 numis he has on him right now suffice, or will he need to work a little more? I don't have a clear idea of its purchasing power. |
Karteria excitingly runs on the equivalent of Norwegian kroner and Seattle-area pricing. Which in practical terms means that 5000 numis roughly converts to $500 dollars and it won't get you that far. It's rough, and the city is already overcrowded. At the moment, most areas in Karteria would be unwilling to risk an Augmented tenant with nothing to their name- if they would even rent to an Augmented at all. That'll be the longer term problem. However: East Sophia, being the poorest and bleakest district, would be the place to go to have a chance. And even there, an abandoned warehouse (in honestly awful condition), or similar large decrepit building would be closer to 40000N(!) a month. An actual studio apartment would be much less, going for around 12000N a month. There is the option of a... hollowed out car, which could be rented for the reasonable sum of 2000N a month. It is in all ways a worse place than even the tiny rooms in the Valentia, but it is there. Characters are... likely to be struggling for a while, though opportunities for income will come (in addition to whatever work characters might find in the meantime- in whatever local businesses that are willing to take them on). Pooling resources is probably going to be the way to go for most. In the mid-long term, if characters gain a good enough reputation with Patho-Gen and the government, they may be willing to help subsidize housing- making it less expensive, and increasing the available options. In the short term... well, there's always squatting in an unoccupied building and hoping for the best. Getting caught means getting in trouble with the authorities, possessions confiscated, fines, and will further lower the Augmented's reputation with the locals. If you do take this option, just be realistic about the potential consequences. |
