A couple of questions: As a wizard, what would Gale be able to "sense" about the types of magic in the setting (the magic found in technology chips, the magic citizens can do, katalyth). Also, the orb in his chest consumes magic. It's stable now, so Gale doesn't need to consume magic from items anymore, but if he tried doing so, what would happen? With the katalyth, I assume he'd just die, but what about from some kind of tech? Thanks, you guys are the best! |
The magic in the setting, the kind of things the locals use, would probably come across as very orderly. Structured and precise and very clean, though not particularly strong on its own. There's a bit of it to be found in most mechanical devices, from the lights to the ServiTons, to the trams. Occasionally, there's an edge of decay to it, in the more complicated objects like the ServiTons- like the edges of the 'structure' of the magic is being twisted up. It doesn't seem to effect functionality, though. Katalyth itself is nothing like that, as while it is intensely and painfully magical, there's no mind or thought behind it. It's as though base expression, emotion- has found some way to congeal and solidify into tangible fragments of misery. It is always changing, in ways not visible to the naked eye, but could be sensed by those with a good feeling for these things. If Gale tried to feed normal magical tech to his orb... it would work, in the sense that he would absorb it and ruin the item, but it wouldn't feel good. Like a strong electrical shock, as though being overloaded by magic that struggles to find somewhere to go. It wouldn't provide any additional powers. To try to absorb Katalyth like this, it would possibly just kill him. He could also just have an absolutely miserable time but survive- going temporarily mad from it, along with developing all the dripping boils that comes with arcane radiation poisoning. Gale may also mutate from it- distorting limbs, growing more eyes, that sort of thing. These effects would eventually fade, so long as he didn't keep trying to feed his orb Katalyth. If he did keep going, it would hopefully not set off the orb, but there may be some localized explosion which would be very unhealthy for both Gale and anyone around him. |
