May I ask- does it seem as though the citizens here have gone slightly insane from the intensity of the Katalyth, perhaps even the barrier not being enough to totally shield them? Or does their paranoia seem to be more of the typical isolated-small-town variety? It's something of a mix of both. Were Katalyth not in existence, the Phantasians would still be skeptical and wary of outsiders. They don't want to live in the big city for a reason (even if that reason is 'we've always been here'), and anyone who turns up from elsewhere... why? It'd be hard for them to imagine a purpose that's to their benefit.

But Katalyth exposure, and its known influence over emotion... it's not doing anything good to the local mindset. Their smaller barrier isn't quite as effective as Karteria's, and the amount of Katalyth in the region is immense. It's amazing that they're surviving at all, but also inevitable that the emotional leakage from the arcane mineral is leaving its mark on their minds. It deepens pre-existing paranoia, provides more angles for it, more reasons to be afraid.

That said, it would still take a good amount of provocation for them to be hostile to outsiders. Katalyth is depressing; it provides more reason to believe in the inevitability of the end-times, and the apathy to do no more than continue toiling at their daily lives.

So basically: always paranoid, Katalyth making it easier to find more justifications to be paranoid and pessimistic and a bit odd.
