northling asked on Log - August 2025/Event FAQ at 2025-08-13

Answer date: 2025-08-17

With northly's natural soul being a pīwakawaka, I'm having her ability to use orpheus' song very weak (essentially only able to use it in kelesis or other places where it's boosted) to have a strong version of Furies' sight, linked to pīwakawaka mythology.

Since furies' sight allows requesting help from the dead, and pīwakawaka mythology has them carry the souls of the dead to the afterlife/homeland, I figure if there was a.... Soul level desire she could pick up on it. Eg if a human was kept alive for hundreds of years she'd be able to pick up that the soul wants rest, or if a soul was trapped or not matching the person it was attached to, she could pick up the distress or discomfort, and when not anchored to a person/animal/host she could carry them, including to the void (afterlife).

She couldn't have a full blown conversation with a soul, or anything that sophisticated, but tugging at them a little to see if they're properly linked to the body yes, alerting them to that she's paying attention, potentially, and sensing basic desires (particularly around where they want to be) yes.

Does that work okay? Totally happy to adjust if need be!
Belated response, but yes, that would be totally fine as a power she could have, a bolstered version of Furies' Sight and a weaker Orpheus' Song to balance. (Apologies for forgetting this fun trait of Northly's, we definitely know about this but it can be a lot to keep track of!)

And the information she would receive would remain largely the same- though she might also pick up then on the souls not necessarily belonging to the people she's talking with in Kelesis. The people do not seem aware of this, and the souls themselves are not distressed- that sense of contentment is genuine. They do not wish to be anywhere else. Whatever sort of situation is going on here, no one seems to be unhappy about it.
