It would feel... odd. Like emotions coming from underwater, something thick and stifling. Muffled, but present. It will be clear that they're in some amount of distress or fear, and that it's also been flattened, in a way- a singular, unending note of upset, felt from a distance. (For those capable of reading thoughts, there aren't any, it's something more fundamental and base.)
