hi, mods! elan is... finally interested in the metaplot... trauma will do that to you, i guess,,, π«

on that note, i come bearing the following very specific question (of potential interest to others who play characters with similar career aspirations): at this point in the game, how feasible would it be for a golem type to pitch him- or herself as a sort of butler/personal assistant/whatever to some guy or gal in the government? elan would like to try for #reasons; if it is at all feasible, do let me know and i will give you more details to see if he might succeed! and if it's not feasible at all, no worries -- i'd be interested to hear what a failure might look like, too. :) thank you!

... oh my god, i'm sorry, i forgot to add -- dorothea "rooted" elan and now his body occasionally sprouts little narcissus flowers. given that the flowers are feeding off the permet in his system and that permet is his canon's information-sharing and -storage mineral, would it be possible to distill a truth serum from their nectar?
Edited 2025-11-07 07:34 am (local)

There is currently a fair bit of skepticism, and outright wariness towards many of the Augmented in Governmental circles. Golem-types occupy an odd niche, as while they (some of them, at least) are recognized as being amongst the Augmented (and therefore not originally being dull machines...? it's not something Karterians think about too closely), they're not really viewed as alive, or important. So while they've garnered no appreciation, they've also avoided collecting dislike.

A Golem performing the pitch themself, rather than being brought forward by their 'owner' is bizarre to them. It'd be sort of amusing behavior, but clearly something Patho-Gen had programmed it to do. But would they use it? Golem-types are perceived as the least threatening amongst the Augmented, despite the way several have 'malfunctioned' over the months, inflicting varying amounts of property damage.

They wouldn't be worried about Elan himself, but they would question the safety of being around one of these Augmented-machines Patho-Gen keeps bringing out. But they might be willing to give it a try- but they would want to start him with more general office work, menial drudgery, fetching things, and the like. They want to see what this model does, and whether it shows any signs of breaking down catastrophically... If he ends up being particularly useful and not suspicious, he could get 'graduated' into being claimed by someone specific, if still used for similar tasks.

(In any case: Elan wouldn't be paid for his services. :c No one pays the office coffee maker.)

For his flowers: That would make an interesting hybrid of materials! There's no reason why the plants rooting in Elan couldn't be influenced by what they're getting nutrition from. They could totally be distilled into producing something like that.
