Hey hey, question about world-related stuff that's available in libraries, specifically:

1. Stuff about what happens to an un-Augmented body with arcane radiation poisoning, whether in actual medical texts or like, archived periodicals that might have been made available to the public. Essentially, if Palamedes wants to find stuff about/from when the Katalyth's downfall era was in full swing, could he? Or is that stuff restricted...

2. Related, stuff about Peacock! Is there published information about Peacock's life and so on, etc.

3. Legends, fairy tales, mythology type stuff. Specifically involving magic and its origins, but he'll take anything. He will also take just regular ol' scientific studies of how magic got here or was developed.

1. There would be some general information available to the public. Periodicals from the start of the crisis are more towards the sensationalized and not necessarily accurate- and are focused more on blaming LupΓͺ for the situation. It's not talked about much in the newspapers these days, as with arcane radiation being here to stay, it's neither new nor sensational.

The actual books are more helpful, and there's been multiple attempts to tackle the subject. Medical literature wouldn't be restricted, and might be the most useful- describing the symptoms (both visible and emotional) of someone falling ill from arcane radiation. Information on treating it is sadly limited- as beyond keeping a sick person inside the Karterian barrier, and palliative treatment to try and relieve pain, there doesn't seem to be anything science can do to save them.

There's some books that focus on the human toll, collecting interviews with people who've survived bouts of contamination, along with those who've watched loved ones die to it.

2. There are multiple books about Peacock! Many of them are in the children's section, colorfully dramatized 'accounts' of her life and her valiant work to save Karteria. There are also some books for adults, less colorfully dramatized- and which largely amount to saying the same things, but with larger words.

It's all very superficial, sanitized, and heroic. She was a lovely person who (unfortunately) developed some bird traits due to the Augmentation process, but did so for the sake of the city. Everyone loves Peacock.

3. Mythology isn't a very popular subject in Karteria- as with society's self-perception of being rational, evidence-based... the practice of coming up with stories to explain phenomena is scorned. (Which isn't to say that Karterians don't love fiction, don't love fantasy or sci-fi... but no one goes into those books expecting a true story! The division between reality and fiction is kept sharply divided.)

Books on magic exist, though there's not much about its 'origin'- only that it's been around as long as humanity has, and there's not even any hard date on that.

Magic is seen as normal and unexciting, though most Karterians have only a marginal personal talent for it. It's usually referred to as 'Controlling', and a fair amount of the 'literature' that exists on it is in magazine form, and has to do with training pets.

The only more recent development in magic has been utilizing it in electronics- that the process of controlling could be applied to less organic things, cutting it into circuitry in order to tell it to do specific tasks. It still requires an outside source of energy to function, the magic providing instruction without power. Katalyth had been perfect to use in conjunction with Karterian magic, but it's unfortunately not an option any more.
